2nd Annual Black is Beautiful Gala and Fundraiser: Black Through the Decades

Save the date: Saturday, February 22, 2024, from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm PDT. Tickets go on sale November 1, 2024.

The Black is Beautiful Gala and Fundraiser will help raise funds to support Black-led organizations and initiatives to help re-imagine our collective investment in community care. This year we will raise funds for General Operating costs for HJSB, the Sojourner Kincaid Rolle Youth Artivism Scholarship Fund, and the Black Community Emergency Needs Fund.  Below you will find information about each on of these initiatives and why they are important for us to uplift.

The program develops 15-25 community mothers* and caregivers of color from across Santa Barbara County and equips them with strategies and relationships to positively impact their communities (and their children).

*This is a gender inclusive program for mothering people, which includes women, femme parents, and other caregivers.

The program will be hosted by local artist and performer, Vivian Storm, and will include musical performances by a special guest for VIP sponsors, a Gospel Choir, a HBCU Honor Marching Band, a special HBCU Majorette Tribute, a Divine 9 Stroll, the Black Legacy Awards, a raffle giveaway, and HJSB will have the Black/African American Historical Timeline exhibition onsite to view for VIP sponsors.

BSA Caregiver Meeting

At this workshop you will learn more information about our partnership with the district, upcoming statewide conferences students can attend, Black Youth scholarship opportunities, and meet our HJSB BSU Student College Mentors that have been working with your children. We will have breakfast available and will be providing childcare for little ones that are toilet trained. Please attend the meeting with your student(s).

HJSB has partnered with the Santa Barbara Unified School District to host the first, Back 2 School Black Community Cookout on Sunday, August 27th, from 12 PM to 4 PM. There will be food, games, community resources, a DJ and school supplies.Come enjoy a great time for our community to come together, laugh, educate, and create meaningful memories.
